Valued Client Since: 2006The Burbank Unified School District (BUSD) is helping lead the way in exploring new revenue models to support educational and extracurricular programs.
When BUSD partnered with FilmL.A. in 2006 and took steps to centralize and streamline its on-location filming license process, the District and its 11 elementary schools, three middle schools, two high schools and one continuation academy tapped into a potential source of income that brings enormous benefits for educators, parents and the 19,850 students currently served by the District.
BUSD schools serve a city population of 108,000 people and are spread throughout a 17.3 square-mile area at the eastern end of the San Fernando Valley.
Under the arrangement with FilmL.A., a substantial portion of the use fees charged for filming at BUSD schools are controlled by the school principal, with the remainder going to the District and to compensate FilmL.A. for its services. The end result is a program that empowers educators to invest funds where they are needed most.
