L.A. Unified School District
Valued Client Since: 2002

The Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) is leading the way in exploring new revenue models to support educational and extracurricular programs.

When LAUSD partnered with FilmL.A. in 2002 and took steps to centralize and streamline its on-location filming license process, the District and its 1,000+ schools and properties tapped into a potential source of income that promises enormous benefits for educators, students and their parents.

LAUSD properties are scattered across 32 incorporated cities and a 710 square-mile area in Los Angeles County. The District currently provides education to more than 694,000 students in grades K-12, in addition to many adult learners, and maintains a workforce of 84,000 people.

Under the arrangement with FilmL.A., a substantial portion of the use fees charged for filming at LAUSD schools are controlled by the school principal, with the remainder going to the District and to compensate FilmL.A. for its services. The end result is a program that empowers educators to invest filming-generated funds where they are needed most.
