FilmL.A. is pleased to announce that the City of Hawthorne has established FilmL.A as film permit coordinator for the area.  Known as the “City of Good Neighbors,” Hawthorne is home to many unique filming locations.  Hawthorne’s 6.1 square miles are home to the Hawthorne Mall (closed), the Robert F. Kennedy Hospital (closed) and a city-owned police station (closed).  Hawthorne also has its own municipal airport — Jack Northrop Field — which is located at Crenshaw Boulevard and the 105 freeway. The City of Hawthorne neighbors the cities of Inglewood, El Segundo, Manhattan Beach, Gardena, and Lawndale.  By virtue of its location, Hawthorne enjoys a Mediterranean climate and more than 250 sunny days per year.

In addition to being a valuable filming location, the City of Hawthorne is the home of some of the country’s most celebrated business ventures.  Honoring a history of inspiring innovative leaders in industry and business, Hawthorne is today home to SpaceX and Tesla.

“We look forward to the opportunities and economic growth our work with FilmL.A. can bring to Hawthorne,” said Hawthorne Mayor Chris Brown.

For more information about filming in the City of Hawthorne, or in any of FilmL.A.’s client jurisdictions, we invite you to contact our Production Planning Department at 213.977.8600.

  2. Hi. Are there pictures of the Hawthorne mall ? Also is it a safe secure location?
Meaning are their inhabitants or is the local locked and secured?
Can you email me the day price for filming a student/indie film, with not much of a budget?

    1. Hello, FilmL.A. will suggest that you to check out LocoScout.com, which features many inexpensive locations and you can actually search for a “mall” location. For specifically the Hawthorne Mall, it would be best to contact Production Planning at (213) 977-8600, as they can advise you on filming in that specific jurisdiction.
