Oftentimes, the best leaders are those who are hired in the early stages of a business venture and grow alongside their company. As they are promoted to managerial positions, they help establish company policies and procedures and know the company from bottom to top.
This can be said of FilmL.A.’s Vice President of Permit Administration, Susan Angrisano, who has been with FilmL.A. since 1995 and has served as front office coordinator, office manager, operations manager and operations director since then.
When the City and County of Los Angeles merged and privatized their respective film permit offices to create FilmL.A.’s predecessor company, Susan was the sixth employee hired.
She now oversees the company’s administrative personnel who handle front office reception and phone calls, and she leads a team of ten assistant production coordinators who shepherd permit applications through the initial stages of coordination by reviewing and assigning permit applications, completing permit insurance requirements, coordinating student and still photography permits and the annual L.A. County still photography badges program (which supplants still photography permit requirements for qualifying productions within unincorporated County areas).
“I love the film industry and the challenges on-location production presents. It’s fun but hard work. There’s always something to be learned and ways to be found to improve the local film production environment for everyone,” Susan said.
